The International Conference on Gender Studies in China, June 26-29, 2009 Click here for information to submit a paper or panel proposal. This conference is going to be jointly hosted by University of Michigan and Fudan University. Wang Zheng has been working on this conference in the past few years. The goal of the conference is to provide a forum for a younger generation of feminist scholars in China to present their new scholarship on women and gender in China and to provide an opportunity for scholars in and outside China to discuss issues concerning them in a rapidly changing world of global capitalism and global feminisms. Fundamentally, it is designed to further promote the emerging academic field of gender studies in China and to enable the circulation of feminist knowledge to a large feminist community, including feminists (and feminist knowledge produced) in and outside China, and in and outside academic institutions. CSWS will hold a reception at this Shanghai conference for the 30th Anniversary of CSWS to reflect upon the contributions and future roles of CSWS in promoting gender studies in China as well as to network with a new generation of scholars at home and abroad who attend the conference.
Publication of a collected volume of recent publications by CSWS members. In conjunction with the 20th anniversary celebration, we propose the publication of a volume in Chinese by the CSWS members by the time of the 2009 conference in Shanghai. Interested CSWS members may each select one scholarly article of her own to be included in the volume. A publication of this nature will also serve as a strong statement of our society's continuing commitment to the development of feminist scholarship in China. We welcome your input on the format and theme of this collective volume. Please send your inquries to Wang Zheng (wangzhen@umich.edu) and Zhang Hong (hzhang@colby.edu).
